An excellent 11.5-inch [30cm] diameter oak-cased “rope-twist” aneroid barometer. [The very realistic carving is much superior to the many subsequent copies by other makers.]

The well-engraved, silvered brass dial, 8 inches [21cm] in diameter, with engine-turned central motif and red-highlighted capital letters, bears curved Fahrenheit mercury thermometer.

Protected by bevelled plate glass mounted into cast brass bezel. Short and Mason were amongst the leading early manufacturers of aneroid barometers and barographs, working from premises in Hatton Garden, London

Circa 1870
