Made in Canton, based on the East India Company first iron paddle frigate.
Built by Birkenhead Ironworks in 1839, launched in 1840, she was the first British ocean-going iron warship.
Commissioned by the British East India Company, a paddle frigate, she first saw action during the First Opium War, the Second Battle of Chuenpi, 7th January 1841, against the Chinese fleet at the Bocca Tigris Forts.
Later in her career she was used to suppress piracy in waters around the Philippines.
