Chinese early 18th century blue and white compressed form lidded box with original cover. Made c1700 during the reign of the Emperor kangxi at the kilns at Jingdezhen with excellent painting and potting.
The top is painted with insects flying around chrysanthemums in a jardinière, a pattern that is repeated around the narrow base. The Edge of the lid is painted with a band of stylised dots.
The small objects like this are associated with the scholar but are also desired export ware, although in my opinion it is for the Chinese home market. The potting and painting of such items could only be performed by the best craftsmen.
Excellent colour and potting
