Chinese early 18th century blue and white lidded jar made at Jingdezhen for export to Europe during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi.

Painted to the side with two quatrefoil shaped panels showing the heavenly twins - HE HE Twins- or the two saints of harmony.

The He He twins were popular subject for both painting and sculpture during the Kangxi reign on export pieces as they were seen in the west as children and the folk stories were obscure.

The boys are holding a lotus bloom with further lotus heads to the sides of the panel. The petal is filled with a cell pattern.

The panels are separated by further lotus flowers -for beauty , purity, harmony and summer.
