Joseph Somalvico - London. 18th Century mahogany Wheel Barometer.

Good quality late 18th Century inlaid mahogany Wheel Barometer in essentially original condition.

The well-proportioned case, with arched top and cross-grained sides, triple-strung, and inset with finely engraved silvered brass Fahrenheit thermometer and 8in. diameter barometer dial, signed by the maker. 

A leading Italian immigrant Barometer-maker who worked from various addresses in Holborn from around 1785, and whose descendants continued the firm through into the 20th Century.
