A cinnabar lacquered Longquan celadon tripod incense burner; the body, rim, and feet entirely applied with lacquer and carved with a continuous band depicting three pavilions of scholars and attendants seated on terraces, tables of flowers, and jars interspersed with pine, prunus trees, and plantain amongst rockwork below clouds, all on a brocade ground within squared borders, the inverted rim with a larger band of key-frets, the footrim with band of lappets and feet in the form of ruyi heads, the interior and base revealing the original celadon ceramic base of the vessel.
China: the Longquan, late 14th century; the cinnabar lacquer, Hongzhi (1488–1505) to Zhengde.
