A white jade hexafoil cup, the lobed walls rising to a flaring everted rim, on a spreading foot forming a flowerhead, the exterior carved with panels of honeysuckle sprays below two bands of running scrolling motifs and zig-zag patterns to the neck, the well-polished interior subtly forming another flowerhead.
China: Tang dynasty (618–907).
Diameter: 2 1/4 in (5.7 cm), Japanese wood box inscribed with yantangqingwan (‘refined objects of inkstone hall’) and baiyubei (‘white jade cup’) and pouch.
Provenance: Private Japanese collection.
