Chinese Export Armorial Porcelain Dish.
Arms of Pole.
Circa 1745.
The Chinese Export armorial porcelain dish is painted with panels to each side with ships at sea near land and in one the depiction of a lighthouse. The armorial bearing are placed to the centre border and well and the crest of a falcon rising charged with a martlet (for a fourth son) to the top centre. In the centre is a large shaped panel painted with European buildings with hill and mountains in the background.
Dimensions: 12 3/4 inches x 8 1/2 inches x 1/4 inches (32.39 cm wide x 21.59 cm).
Reference: Chinese Armorial Porcelain, David Sanctuary Howard, Page 326, J5. Howard states that this service was probably made for Charles Pole who was born in 1695 and was MP for Liverpool.
