Excellent, 19th Century mahogany flat-to-the-wall bow-front Stick Barometer; the front-to-back ‘swan-neck’ pediment over engraved, silvered brass register plates, signed for the retailer, “J. Redmond Optician 112 Pentonville Road London", with rack-and-pinion operated vernier and protected by bowed glass. The faded, figured mahogany trunk, ebony strung, with original concealed offset cistern barometer tube terminating behind urn-shaped ebony cistern-cover.
The case and register plates are each inscribed ‘Rubergall’ evidencing the maker, who was a highly accomplished Optical Instrument-Maker, holding numerous Royal warrants and working from premises in Coventry St. from 1805-54
