Chinese - Kangxi - c1700 blue and white deep 'U' shape moulded bowl. Made at the kilns at Jingdezhen for export to Europe although the decoration is painted in the Chinese taste with a variation of the '100 boy pattern' it shows boys being watched by ladies while at play in all different activities.
The boy pattern is a reference to the Confucian belief that boys and not girls were needed in large numbers to maintain society and the family.
Excellent detail
The inside of the bowl is painted to show a boy playing football
To the inside of the base there is a six character mark that reads 'Precious as a round gem of beautiful jade'
The body is lightly moulded with small flutes that give the rim a wavy appearance
