English Creamware Dish with Moulded Fruit and Openwork Border.

Whieldon.

Circa 1775.

The circular lead-glazed cream-coloured earthenware dish has a basket weave openwork border with an inner ropework band issuing forth molded fruits and leaves including melons, pears, apples, and pears, the ground in green with the fruit highlighted in yellow and brown.  

Dimensions: 8 1/2 inches diameter  x 1 1/2 inches.

Reference:
The Henry H. Weldon Collection, English Pottery, 1650-1800, Leslie B. Grisby, page 225, #116, for a stand with very similar molded fruits.  Grisby  notes that several waster sherds in biscuit and in green-glazed earthenware with similar decoration have been excavated at Thomas Whieldon's Fenton Vivian factory site (1747-1780).
