A fine and large Vienna porcelain oval plaque, dated 1820, and signed Jäger. Painted to the centre, with a mythological scene of Athena, disguised as Mentor, visiting Telemachus, whilst he is attended to by maidens with wine, flowers and fruit. Within a broad gilt border, adorned with gilt scrollwork, and stylised leaf motif.
Having a further border around the rim, decorated with oval panels of silouhetted figures, and gilded panels of heron. Within an elaborate gilt border, on a crimson ground.
Underglaze blue Beehive mark, and impressed date mark (1)820 to the reverse. Titled ‘Telemach u Mentor auf Calypso’.
Length - 41 cm, 16 1/8”.
Width - 28 cm, 11”.
Condition - Perfect. No damage. No restoration.
