A very large (1.5 litre capacity)Victorian silver and cut glass Jug with internal silver and glass fitting for ice made in Birmingham in 1888 by John Grinsell and Sons. This magnificent large jug is suitable for Water, Lemonade and White Wine and is in superb condition. It is engraved to both sides with the family crest and motto of the Cunningham family. The over fork over motto was the cry used to hide the first King of Scotland Duncan’s son after his father was murdered by Macbeth. They forked straw over him in a barn to hide him from Macbeths murderous henchmen. The jug is hallmarked on all the component pieces and bears the English registered patent mark from the middle years of 1887 and also a French patent mark Brevete SGDG (which means Brevete’ Sans Garantie Du Gouvernment-Patent without Government guarantees.
