Dated: 1800 Swansea Wales
This significant pearlware glazed pottery charger from the Swansea Pottery is beautifully decorated with a magnificent view of two anglers fishing at the lake Padarn under Dolbadarn Castle, located in North Wales.
The decoration is in the typical Prattware palette, also used for the repeated fern garland around the border, providing a perfect frame for the central picture.
Note: Dolbadarn Castle occupies a lofty, lonely spot overlooking the waters of Llyn Padarn, native-built Dolbadarn Castle was once a vital link in the defenses of the ancient kingdom of Gwynedd.
It stood to watch over the strategic route inland from Caernarfon to the upper Conwy Valley, most likely constructed by Llywelyn ap Iorwerth (Llywelyn the Great) in the late 12th or early 13th century.
