Striking circa 1910 Lesghi Rug.
2.88 x 1.74 m.
Antique Lesghi rugs, originating in an area now broadly covered by modern-day Azerbaijan, represent some of the finest carpets from the region, well known for their bold, graphic designs, combining an expressive tribal charm with high-quality weaving.
This striking Lesghi carpet is a wonderfully unique example of its type, boasting an energetic composition, with a star motif creatively repeated in a wide variety of forms and colours across the field, showcasing a real sense of playful spontaneity, framed by a tasteful border. The colour palette employs a muted blue field with shades of grey, and tones of ivory, tan, soft denim blues, indigos and warm reds in the drawing - a diverse range, which works to complement the dynamism of the composition.
Retained in very good condition for everyday use, its outer borders and selvedges still intact.
A real work of art, which would add tribal charm and personality to any interior.
