Antique Baktiar Carpet.

2.90 x 2.00 m.

Baktiar carpets, woven in West Persia, are well known as among the most distinct, and thus highly sought after, Persian weavings, thanks to their unique combination of the playful, geometric designs of nomadic and tribal rugs, and the grand scale and high quality craftsmanship one would expect of a Persian workshop piece.

This interesting early Baktiar carpet has a bold graphic drawing.  The soft terracotta field is very attractive and compliments the expressive overall drawing and array of vegetable-dyed colours.  It is framed by three individual borders, each different to one another, with the patterns creatively repeated in a wide range of colours and forms.

This Baktiar is in very good practical condition for everyday use, with a charming age-related patina.  It retains its original borders on all sides.

A decorative example with a tribal personality and warmth to blend in a stylish setting.
