An amusing satirical anti-catholic Staffordshire pearlware pottery metarmorphose stirrup or Ryton cup made in early 19th century. The cup has reversible heads of the Pope and the Devil. The Pope is shown wearing his triple crown headgear and the Devil is shown grinning widely.A similar example is located in the Willett Collection in the Brighton Pavilion Museum with the inscription on the inner rim "While Pope absolves/ the Devil smiles".
