An excellent early 18th century French coffee or pepper mill, having a tapered cylindrical brass funnel with incised lines, a fitted lid and folding winding handle. The square cherry wood base, has a stepped and chamfered top edge, and is above a frontal drawer with a brass ring handle with all sides decorated with brass S scrolls within a narrow strung rectangular border. The base sits on a fixed brass tray and the mechanism is in full working order. The base has a good rich colour and lovely patination.
