An excellent early 18th century French walnut coffee or pepper mill, having a graduated cylindrical brass funnel with a fitted lid and winding handle. The square walnut base has a rounded and chamfered top edge and is above a frontal drawer with a brass wire ring handle. All the sides of the base and the drawer front are decorated with brass S scrolls within a narrow banded rectangular border. The base sits on a fixed brass plate and the mechanism is in full working order. The whole has a pleasing colour and good patination. The brass lid has a minor piece missing, see images.
