Georgian Period Sycamore Circular Platter.

A pleasing turn of the century sycamore food platter, having a narrow horizontal and angled rim, with a sunken centre showing faint knife cuts. The underside has extensive knife cuts, which would have been used for a desert such as bread or cheese etc. The flat underside of period platters often had knife cuts, as platters were turned upside down and used for deserts at the end of the main meal. The whole has a medium honey colour and patination.

Provenance: from a Welsh private collection.

English Circa 1800.
