Late Victorian Oak Match Container and Candlestick.
A cylindrical brass hinged match container, having a pewter inset candlestick of small proportions, used for melting sealing wax to secure envelopes or important documents. The interior of the lid has sandpaper for striking purposes. It is a most unusual item for the desk top, made of oak with a side handle for carrying purposes. The whole has a good medium colour, grain and patination.
