19th Century Laburnum Wood String Barrel.
A small good quality laburnum wood string barrel, having a protruding brass nozzle for the twine and with a metal cutter above. The barrel, which has incised lines, is screwed to a circular stepped base. One end unscrews revealing the separate spindle for the twine, which protrudes at the end for hand turning. The whole has a dark rich colour and excellent patination.
