A substantial 18th Century Brass and Steel Potato Rake, having a curved steel blade in the traditional manner and shaped brass handle. Potatoes were part of the staple diet in the 17th and 18th centuries and potato rakes were used to retrieve ones cooked in the ashes of a down hearth fire or oven, as well as being a useful culinary item.
