A rare 18th century oak figural fescue of traditional form, but with a carved figure, possibly St. Catherine standing full length, which makes it an extremely interesting item of treen. Fescues were pointers in schools for teaching children their letters, particularly in a dame's school. This lovely example is a serious collector's item, having a medium colour and good patination.
English Circa 1780.
