A small mahogany late Georgian waiter / coaster, having a raised, stepped and concave moulded rim. These items were used for decanters, wine glasses and occasionally as visiting card trays. This one has a baize base, which is recessed for it to slide along a polished table, possibly holding a small liqueur decanter. The whole has a rich colour and retains a patination.
