A large Swedish oval decorated iron banded pine marriage box dated 1856, the whole painted in pale blue, having a slightly domed lid decorated with pale red flower heads and green foliage. It has flat iron strapwork, painted black, and an iron central carrying handle. The folding substantial lid is fitted with an interior iron lock operated by a large key. It has a circular iron ring handle to each end with further strapwork and is an extremely attractive item, substantially made to withstand general use.
