An exceptionally fine early 18th century Swedish burr birch beer stoop (tankard), having a lid with a carved central knob and stepped circular decoration, with a wooden peg hinge attached to the carved scroll handle, with a further smaller knob to facilitate opening. The circular body has bands of engine turned decoration, with a slightly protruding foot rim above three angled ball feet. The underside is also carved with incised lines and a central flower head. The whole has exceptional grain, a lovely medium colour and good patination. The lid knob and one foot replaced at a later date, and the handle with minimal restoration.
Swedish Circa 1720
