A most attractive Scottish salt box of barrel form, having a stepped and fitted lid with a raised and well turned knob handle. The body, in alternate staved vertical sections in alder and sycamore, has ribbed turnings to the top and base. Most Scottish salt boxes are wall mounted, so it is unusual to find a table model. The whole has a lovely colour and excellent patination.
