A most interesting late 18th or early 19th century combination bargrate toaster or lark spit for meat or game, stamped Hopkinson Cross Hills. The three pronged fork is adjustable, so it can be extended for toasting or roasting or retracted over the brass rim, that would have held a bowl for catching the fat, so that the bird or joint could be basted. It is also adjustable for height and held in position by a spring on the main support.
