A good French 19th century screw type nutcracker of traditional form, the main section is burr boxwood, which has a circular opening to receive the hazelnut. The screw section is made of plain boxwood, and is of an identical colour and patination, having a circular ring turned recessed decoration to each end. Eating these were a popular pastime at functions and at theatrical performances. The whole has a good honey colour and patination.
