A rare and most interesting 18th century Scandinavian food box, retaining traces of original painted decoration. The body, of double rounded form, has a full sized conforming swivel locking lid, and together with the sides, are both carved with a scrolling floral design with leaves and flower heads. The interior is divided into two sections and the one piece base is held in place with small wooden pegs in the traditional manner. The whole has a warm pale colour and retains a patination.
