A traditional mahogany County Durham knitting sheath of square, curved and tapered form, having a hook at the end. It has an oblique slot across the face to take the apron string. The face is inlaid with three diamonds. The glass panel at the needle end has a paper label, which reads Sarah Ann Gascoyne in lower case script. The whole has a good rich colour and patination.
