An unusual pair of stained and polished pine ceremonial axes, gilded with initials J.W. and C.E. and N. and dated 1881. These axes belonged to the Ancient Order of Foresters, which was a friendly society that was formed in 1834. These societies were formed to provide financial aid to their members in financial times of need. The monies for this purpose was raised by members contributing a regular sum to the society.
