A rare 18th century lignum vitae skittle cheese, which were used in some areas instead of a ball. They were bowled along a rock maple floored alley in the game of skittles, which in the 14th century was called kayles in England and kyles in Scotland. This cheese has been well used and has a good colour and patination.
