The Claret Jug has the most beautiful baluster shaped glass body with tucked in base. The sides are engraved with diamond and star motifs and a band of Greek Key engraving on the lower section.

The silver gilt mounts are unusually decoarted with beaded borders, Greek Key bands and vertical lobing. The lobed, domed, hinged cover terminates in a most unusual beaded finial and the scroll handle is attached the main body with shell mouldings.

This is the first time we have seen this design of wine jug and we conclude that, due to the small size and that it is silver gilt, that it was probably used for Sweet Wine during the Dessert Course. The Jug is in excellent condition and is fully marked on the main mounts and the cover.

The quality is exceptional, as would be expected from this firm who were given the Royal Warrant by Queen Victoria.

Dimensions

Height: 11.75 inches, 29.38cm., Diameter of the main body, at the widest point: 3.8 inches, 9.5cm.
