Regency Period Spode Porcelain Imari Fruit Coolers, Covers & Liners.

Pattern 2596.

A Rock and Tree Pattern.

Circa 1810

The Regency Spode Porcelain Imari Fruit Coolers, Covers & Liners are painted in a vibrant Imari palette which is richly gilded and painted in cobalt blue and iron red in a pattern described as Rock and Tree pattern.  This form is called both a fruit cooler and ice cream pail.

The decoration is designed in horizontal bands. The scene on the lower part of the tureen shows a Chinoiserie garden scene with blue rockwork and tree trunks, green leaves and iron-red flower heads all in the Imari palette. The band above shows three alternating bands of fabric designs.  This is repeated on the covers.  Around the bases at the foot is a mazarine blue band with gilt leaves with a gold band below and above.

Dimensions: 12 inches high x 10 inches wide x 8 inches deep.

Condition: Two small chips on the underside rim of the cover to one and a chip to the underside rim of the other cover.
