Rare Vernacular Adjustable Tripod Lighting Device.
With Spring Loaded Twin Candle Arms and Loop Finial.
Well Patinated Hand Wrought Iron.
English, circa 1790.
Dimensions
96.48cms high x 43.16cms wide x 43.16cms deepCondition report
A good floor standing height adjustable lighting device, with twin branch candle sconces with drip trays raised on a well-shaped, widespread tripod base, terminating in penny feet. The finial is unusually fashioned as loop and may have also served as a hanging device. The candle arms are supported by a spring-loaded mechanism and run up and down the central stem. One of the springs is a little misshapen, but it is in fully functional condition. The metal has developed a naturally oxidised and patinated surface, with a good lustrous finish. This is an unusual piece of early lighting with a stylish graphic form.Stock number
