A finely made and well-drawn lighting device, having a large adjustable spring "cage", with twin scrolled sprung mechanism supporting a spring loaded "peerman" rush or splint holder, opposite a single candle socket. Constructed from wrought steel and retaining the original brass ball finial, the central stem has good baluster turned details towards the base, where it joins a stepped tripod base, finally terminating in scrolled feet. Of particularly fine quality the spring mechanism also incorporates a low hook beneath the peerman, probably for snuffers or possibly a cruise light. This example shows evidence of much use and wear, commensurate with its age and function, but remains in fully functional condition. It is a finely finished lighting device with excellent polished and patinated steel surface and of generous scale. A rare example.Stock number
