An Extremely Rare Matched Pair Of Regency Period
Mahogany Bowfronted Dressing Tables, Attributed
To The Workshops Of Gillows, Each With Superbly
Figured Top Over Two Short, One Long & One
Double Drawer Raised on Very Fine Turned And
Reeded Tapering Legs
"Attributed To Gillows, Lancaster"
(This pair of tables are described as a matched pair due
to slight variations in the construction including the overall
width and the overall depth. These differences are however
extremely minor and in no way affect the value or appeal of
the tables and they should certainly be regarded as a pair.
Indeed the slight size difference can almost certainly be
explained by them being a custom made commission for a
particular spot, in a particular home which required the
slight differences in dimensions. When looked at in detail they
have certainly been produced in the same workshop, around the
same time and spent the rest of their lives since together. They are
exceptional quality, constructed from high grade mahogany and
were almost certainly made by the highly regarded cabinet making
firm of Gillows. They are a well known Gillows design pattern and
general "feel" of them is just very much Gillows, not least the
exceptionally fine turned, reeded legs which they are raised on
which is one of Gillows trademarks.)
