A pair of embroidered orphrey panel sections, Spanish or Italian, circa 1500.
Each worked in coloured silks in laid, long and short stitches and applied metallic threads, on a blue linen ground, with traces of velvet pile, one designed with John the Evangelist, the other the Virgin and Child, each standing within a canopied niche adorned with statues, garlands, fruiting vines, lilies and paired birds. Losses. Framed within an oak cushion-moulded frame covered in terracotta silk velvet, glazed.
