About

Houlston

Houlston specialises in period oak, vernacular furniture, antique textiles and works of art from the 15th century onwards.

They are a spouse team, David and Carolyn, who met in the auction world and have built a life and business together working with antiques.

David spent 25 years with the Oak department at Bonhams, and has handled an unparalleled variety of important pieces of period oak and works of art. Carolyn completed a degree in Art History and became an assistant to the furniture historian Christopher Gilbert at Temple Newsam in Leeds before joining Phillips Auctioneers, where she became fascinated by antique textiles.

They source a combination of original, beautifully crafted and useful period oak furniture, antique textiles and complimentary works of art, offering collectors a broad selection of items both exquisite and practical. They derive enormous pleasure from living with and making use of period furniture, and firmly believe in the importance of continuing to appreciate and use these beautiful items.

David is well recognised for expertise of period oak and metalwares, and he and Carolyn together have over four decades of experience. They are proud of their integrity and care deeply about delivering exceptional customer service.

Please note that Houlston carries a selection of stock at the showroom location but can always make specific arrangements to bring particular items there by prior arrangement.
