An 18th century padouk, ivory-inlaid and ebony strung document box, Vizagapatam, Eastern India, circa 1740-1780.

Produced for European export, inlaid and highlighted with penwork floral arabesques throughout, the hinged lid enclosing a fitted interior of open and lidded divisions, along with small drawers, around a central large well.
