Pair Of 19th Century Armchairs

A very good quality pair of mid 19th century Victorian walnut tub library armchairs.

Having unusual hoop type open backs with carved c scroll type upright supports over seat with scrolling arms raised on elegant carved cabriole legs and castors. 

This elegant pair of chairs are typical of the mid victorian period in many ways, but also very unusual in other ways. The carving is very typically victorian, although executed far better and in a far crisper manner than many carved items which you will see from this period and the sprung seats raised on cabriole legs is also a very typical victorian furniture design. 

However the open and low backs are most unusual indeed and a design we have rarely, if ever come across before. The chairs have great depth, which along with the sprung seats make them particularly comfortable for the average person to sit in for long periods of time.

They are in excellent condition overall with just a few expected old marks, scuffs and scrapes to the wood and having been relatively recently reupholstered and covered. These chairs have a certain charm and elegance which many from this period lack, whilst at the same time remaining very much fit for purpose and their original function. They could be used in a wide variety of settings around the home, from hallway to drawing room and bedroom to living room.
