A good quality early 20th century nest of four Oriental Hardwood Coffee Tables. Having well figured panelled tops with attractive carved friezes, raised on elegant square supports and stretchers.

Nests of coffee tables were made from the early 19th century and continue to be made to this day both in England and further afield within the British Empire.

It is common to find furniture constructed in the Far East towards the end of the 19th century, and in the early 20th century, as it was being manufactured there specifically for the western market.

Nests of tables like these, low coffee tables and pot stands are by far the most common designs.

Generally the quality of these types of furniture gets progressively worse as the date of their manufacture gets more recent.

These are very sturdy and date right back to approximately 1900 in date, and are very much fit for their original purpose.

The oriental hardwood which they are constructed from is a particularly hardwearing wood, making them perfect for use as coffee tables with them requiring very little ongoing care, polishing and attention.

Circa 1900.
