Large Mocha Pottery Pearlware Mug.

Early 20th Century.

The Mocha quart mug with bands of blue and brown and around the center a wide bank in brown with dendentric decoration. The loop handle has a leaf terminal at the bottom.

Jonathan Richard (see below) illustrates wasters from the South Wales Pottery site with similar decoration and handles.

Mark: faintly sandblasted Pint/ER either side of crown/71.

Reference: Mocha and related dipped wares, 1770-1939, Jonathan Rickard, Page 56-59 for discussion of this type of wares. The 490 refers to the number of the Weights & Measures District overseeing the factory.
