Condition report

Wrought iron furniture is rare in the British vernacular tradition and this is an exceptional example, retaining its historic painted surface. Fashioned from wrought and sheet metal, the chair has a stylish form in keeping with the William 1V period, with a broad crest rail, above the two rung ladder-back. Both the front and back uprights run full length, with the front legs evolving into the fine scrolled arm terminals. The seat is fashioned from wood and is possibly original. There is no evidence of any significant damage or restoration, and it comes with direct provenance to the Cosgrove Collection. Bearing scars and bruises commensurate with its age and function this rare example is in genuine country house condition.
