Meadowsweet, James Ward, R.A. (British 1769-1859).
Signed with initials, inscribed in artist’s shorthand.
This delicate watercolour over pencil work is by James Ward R.A. (1769-1859), the British animal painter and engraver, who was an inveterate sketcher. Sold mounted in a hand decorated mount, unframed, it bears Ward's distinctive monogram. It is a fine example of botanical drawing by an artist in the collection of most major UK and US museums.
