A superb quality pair of Regency Mahogany Hall Chairs, having superbly figured shaped backs with central set crest over well figured seats and elegant fluted sabre legs.

The original purpose of hall chairs were to be used in the hallway of a house and their function was for the guests
to take a seat on arrival whilst waiting for the owner to come and greet them.

Hence the wooden seats with the theory that often people would come in from outside with wet and dirty clothes, meaning any kind of fabric finish would need recovering with far too much regularity.

Hall chairs come in many different shapes, sizes and qualities, from the mid 18th century right through to the early 20th century.

These are an excellent regency period example in superb condition constructed from the highest grade of mahogany that would have been available at the time.

They retain an exceptional colour and patina that is impossible to recreate other than through years and years of use.

Unfortunately we have not been able to put a family name to the crest on the back but most certainly this will have been placed here to show the original owners.
