A Very Fine Quality And Extremely Rare Mahogany 19th Century Carved Buffet, Of Important, Imposing Proportion, Haviong Finely Carved Pelmet With Scrolling Gallery To Top And Gadrooned Moulding To Edge With Two Frieze Drawers, Over Two Further Tiers Supported By Magnificently Carved Scrolling Legs Terminating With Carved Paw Feet.

Makers Stamp To Underside Of Both Drawers, "Rivett & Sons, Crown Street, Finsbury, London."

Rivett & Sons were listed in the London Post Office Directory 1845 as upholsterers and cabinet makers at 50 Crown Street, having previously been recorded at numbers 3, 4, 5 and 50 on the same street throughout the first half of the 19th century. Little information is known of the firm, with very little documented ouput from their workshops in circulation recently, although the few items which have been offered for sale over the past few years which can be firmly attributed to them have always been distinctive in their design, with exceptional carved decoration.

This fabulous buffet certainly fits the above in terms of the fantastic quality of its construction, the distinctive bold, important look and the magnifcently detailed carved decoration. It is also constructed using very high grade cuts of mahogany, which would no doubt have been extremely expensive to purchase as raw timber.

The making of just about any room this victorian buffet is both beuatiful and practical and would look absolutely stuning in a while host of different environments and places. The different tiers of course make it incredibly functional for both display and serving purposes, whichever the owner so desires, possibly both!

As with all items which we offer for sale this serving buffet has been attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled and trained antique furniture restorers, which would have finished with a natural beeswax in the traditional manner leaving it ready for immediate placement into the home, office or retail environment.
