German Faience Powdered Manganese and Blue Large Vase and Cover.

Mid-18th Century.

The German faience powered manganese-ground vase, of baluster form, has a wide shoulder with sloping sides narrowing to a flared foot.  To front and back are shaped leaf-shaped blue-bordered panels with depictions of scattered flowering plants on the mottled manganese ground.  The cover with an acorn finial is similarly painted with two large and two smaller shaped panels.

Dimensions: 18 inches high x 9 inches diameter at shoulder x foot 5 3/4 inches.

A set of vases with similar powdered manganese ground and the same shape finial were in the Mario Buatta: Prince of Interiors Collection sold by Sotheby's,  on 23 January 2020, lot 41 with a Mallett, London, 23 June 1983 provenance.

Reference: Les collections du Musée des arts décoratifs : Faïences de Delft, Christine Lahaussois, Page 154, for an identical vase decribed as Vase-Balustre Couvert and called German of Dutch.

Condition report

Short hairline to neck and old invisible repair to rim of cover. On one side a small hole has been created to use the vase as a water fountain with the use of a spigot.
